ENGINEERING DELIVERABLES IN PRIMAVERA [ORACLE] P6 FOR EARNED VALUE VIDEO DEMONSTRATION

In the past, I have provided extensively detailed methodologies, schedule fragnets, & templates on how to develop and deploy Engineering deliverables in a Schedule.  Then launch this method in parallel to provide precision Earned Value Analysis.  However, in my opinion, the detailed explanation may not have made sense to a larger group of readers.

So this is my attempt to provide Engineering deliverables in an Oil & Gas EPC Schedule Simply Explained is as follows:
  • During the selected Engineering Phase, a known set of deliverables were recognized as the scope of work.
  • Each EPC company has a set standard of deliverables along with their own rules of credit for achieving progress for those deliverables.
  • Upon contract Award, the deliverables are loaded in the schedule with sufficient activity detail granularity and logically tied in order to produce an accurate critical path.
  • Once loaded and validated by the project team; the hours typically provided by the estimating department can be resource loaded into the schedule by the planner/scheduler.
  • In our opinion the following settings provided an accurate functionality in P6:
    • Duration Type = Fixed Duration & Units [in both Projects View & Activity View]
    • % Complete Type = Physical [in both Projects View & Activity View]
    • Use of Steps is optional but typically not necessary.

Summary

EPC's will have different variations of how the schedule is used and how much criteria is loaded into the

schedule.  Some companies maximize the entire use of P6 producing earned value & financials, while

other companies prefer not even resource loading.  Feel free to explore all options available.
